Sales/Use Tax Manager

Description:
This position is accountable for supporting the Tax Department in all tax areas, with emphasis on sales and use tax, from both a compliance and a research and planning perspective. This position will also have primary responsibility for various special projects. Work will primarily be performed as part of a team effort, including both original preparation and some supervisory roles.
Manage workflow and supervise tax department staff with regard to sales and use tax compliance, including original preparation.
Reconcile and maintain sales/use tax G/L accounts
Review and revision of sales/use tax system, including Vertex functionality, policies and procedures for all departments involved in the process, approve and update exemption certificates as needed, etc.
Team with Accounting Dept. to develop a system for capturing and reporting use tax liability
Supervise and coordinate state audits and identify opportunities to reduce exposures and other planning opportunities.
Acquire and maintain a detailed understanding of the Company business and its subsidiaries, and tax implications of current business and changes as they occur.
Tax support to the business, including transaction advice.
Tax research and special projects.
Complete project management for projects worked on alone or with staff. Includes setting appropriate goals and deadlines, establishing written project plans, regularly monitoring project status and seeing the project to final completion. Includes recommending solutions, outlining suggested courses of action, implementation of solution and developing policies and procedures.
Develop good working relationships with Company and subsidiary personnel.
Keep current with regard to tax law changes and developments, analyze effect on Company and regularly communicate findings to the tax department.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree with accounting concentration.
Minimum 5-6 years tax experience, to include Big 4 and industry experience.
Strong background in sales and use tax compliance, gross receipts tax, and property tax.
Significant experience with planning and coordinating tax projects, including full documentation of project plan, process and results.
Excellent project management skills, strong interpersonal and team skills, self-motivated with ability to work and act independently, strong knowledge of computer applications, good organization skills, strong analytical skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, both internal and external.
Computer skills: Excel and Word necessary; Preferred: minimum of 3 years practical experience regarding the operation of the sales and use tax function in a large distributor (all processes from order entry through tax return preparation), including Vertex system; experience with sales and use tax issues for products, services, repairs, etc.
Ability to identify and determine the correct tax treatment of specific transactions, including developing processes to obtain the desired results.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
