Overview.Responsibilities
TITLE: Chemist Systems Design and Measurement
LOCATION: Bridgewater, NJ
REPORTS TO: Senior Associate, SD&M
The Chemist will be a proactive member of a group responsible for new ingredient innovation through structure-function analysis. You will develop new ingredient systems by utilizing fundamental materials, food and polymer science principles. The new ingredients/systems will have new, improved, and/or unique functionality and will enhance our differentiated portfolio of products. You will be responsible for evaluating structure using advanced imaging techniques and functionality utilizing a broad range of material characterization techniques. In addition, you will develop a fundamental understanding of how ingredients interact within given food systems.
As Chemist, your responsibilities will include:
Supporting a range of Applied Research, New Product Development and Customer Support projects by providing instrumental characterization and technical insight. Contribute to projects through knowledge of macromolecule chemistry and structure, ingredient interaction, in addition to advanced microscopy and material characterization techniques.
Contributing to the ongoing development of structural analysis and functionality testing excellence.
Proactively progressing ideas for new product innovations to drive future business growth
Providing evaluation of samples to bring valuable insight to members of the technical community requesting support.
Collaborating with colleagues from Research, Development, Marketing, Technical Services and other groups to support new business opportunities.

Qualified candidates will have:
Bachelor's degree in polymer science, materials science, chemistry, physical chemistry, biotechnology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, Food Science or related field with 0-2 years relevant experience.
Undergraduate research experiences a plus.
Knowledge of hydrocolloids, plant fibers and starch and application into foods and other systems.
Experience in a range of microscopy techniques (bright field, polarized light, confocal microscopy, SEM, staining & tagging etc.) Experience applying fluorescent probes as well as image processing and analysis in LAS X, Imagej or Matlab software.
Hands on experience with techniques for measuring physical properties (vapor sorption, interfacial tension, rheology, texture, mechanical testing, thermal analysis etc.)
Knowledge of statistical design and analysis tools is desired.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work across groups in a matrix organization.
